Omni Impression for Rad AI Reporting

Omni Impression is an AI feature in Rad AI Reporting that automatically generates radiology report impressions from free-form dictation—saving you time and effort. 

The automated impressions are inserted directly into the report and customized based on the report context and the learned style of each radiologist.

How Omni Impression works

Omni Impression focuses solely on generating the impression section of your report. It converts your summarized findings and overall conclusions into a clean, structured impression.

💡 If you’d like AI to populate your entire report from free-form dictation—not just the impression section—use Omni Report instead. 

Key capabilities

• Drafts or revises the impression only
• Is customized based on the report context and the learned style of each radiologist
• Can be used multiple times if the impression needs editing
• Uses blue text to visually distinguish AI-inserted content from dictated and typed text

When to use

• You're generating or revising an impression.
• You’ve already populated other sections in the report manually or via a template.

⚠️ Omni Impression is intended to be an assistive tool for radiologists, and is not intended to make clinical decisions on its own. Always review any content generated by Omni Impression.

Using Omni Impression

To access and use Omni Impression:

1. Open a report.
    
2. Apply a relevant template to the report.
    

3. Navigate to the Omni Box by performing one of the following actions:
    

   • With your microphone on, say the voice command: "Omni Box".
     

     💡 Use the voice command “exit Omni” to leave the Omni Box. Learn more about voice commands.

   • Go to the Omni view and click into the Omni Box.
     

     💡 Don’t see the Omni Box in your report workbench? Make sure the Omni view is turned on in your Personal Settings.

   • Press the stop/play button on your microphone (e.g., PowerMic/SpeechMike) or your assigned button if changed from the default.
     
     
      

     💡 If you're already in the Omni Box, the same button will toggle focus back to the report editor. You can customize your hardware button assignments and hotkeys (keyboard shortcuts) in Personal Settings. 
4. When the Omni Box is highlighted in green, it's in focus and ready to capture dictation.
   
   
   
    
5. Turn on your microphone, switch your attention to the images in your PACS, and dictate your findings in free-text form.
    
6. Once done, you can activate Omni Impression by either: 
    
   • (Recommended) Using the “Omni Impression” voice command.
   • Clicking the Impression button below the Omni Box.
   • Pressing the assigned hardware button or keyboard hotkey.
   • (With Auto Mode enabled) Clicking or tabbing into the Impression section of the report editor. Learn more about Auto Mode. 
     
     
     
      
7. Review the generated impression. 
    
8. Optionally, edit the impression or add more findings. 
   
   If needed, use the bullet or number buttons to escape out of the bulleted or numbered format used by Omni Impression:
   
   
   
    
9. Use Omni Impression to regenerate the impression.

Configuring Auto Mode to automatically generate impressions

Auto Mode is a setting that automatically generates an impression when your focus enters the Impression section of the report editor.

You can specify the modalities to which the Auto Mode will apply and whether you want it to apply when reviewing reports as a finalizing author. 

To turn on and configure Auto Mode:

1. Select Profile > Personal Settings from the main navigation menu on the left-hand side. 
    
2. Select Omni from the menu on the left-hand side or scroll down to the Omni section. 
    
3. Below Impression > Auto Mode, turn on the toggle for Automatically generate impression when focus enters impression section.
   
   
    

4. Determine the modalities to which you’d like to apply the Auto Mode:

   • Computed tomography (CT)
   • Computed radiography (CR)
   • Magnetic resonance (MR)
   • Ultrasound (US)
   • Mammography (MG)

   💡 Certain modalities are hidden from this list, but are included as part of modalities that are shown. This means, for example, that if you have the CR toggle turned on, an impression will be automatically generated in all reports where the CR, DX, and RG modalities were used:

   RG	→ CR	Radiographic imaging (mapped to computed radiography)
   CD	→ US	Color Doppler (mapped to ultrasound)
   DD	→ US	Duplex Doppler (mapped to ultrasound)
   IVUS	→ US	Intravascular ultrasound (mapped to ultrasound)

5. Determine whether you’d like Auto Mode to apply when reviewing reports as a finalizing author. 

   💡 As an attending radiologist, you may wish to have Auto Mode on most of of the time—but off when reviewing reports as a finalizing author. Learn more

• Optimize your templates: Follow these template best practices to get the most out of Omni.
   

• Use substitutions: Add your own auto-replace rules to ensure consistent formatting, refine the speech engine's text output, or create content shortcuts. Learn more about substitutions.
