Overview
Rad AI Reporting offers three types of speech services that convert your dictation into text directly within the report editor:

Advanced — The default cloud-based speech service that blends several advanced speech recognition models to reduce transcription errors in reports. It may boost accuracy for:
- Diverse accents
- Fast dictation
- Noisy environments
- Dates and numbers
- Radiology and medical terminology

Standard — An alternative cloud-based speech service that uses a single speech-to-text model to transcribe your dictation. Suitable for most reporting tasks, but Standard doesn't support the speech recognition dictionary.

Offline — A local speech service that runs on your workstation and does not depend on the cloud. May be less accurate, especially for complex medical language.
⚠️ Other cloud-based features (e.g., signing reports, sending ORU messages, AI Omni features) still require a working internet connection and may be unavailable while you are fully offline.
Switching your speech service
You can switch between speech services at any time.
- Click on your profile icon at the bottom-left corner of the page. Then select Personal Settings from the menu.
- In the Personal Settings dialog that opens, select Speech from the navigation menu on the left-hand side.
- From the Speech Service drop-down menu, select either Standard, Advanced, or Offline.
Your dictations will automatically be routed through the selected speech service. When recording is active, the color of your microphone icon changes to reflect your chosen speech service:

What's the difference between the Advanced and Standard speech services?
Standard is Rad AI Reporting's cloud-based speech service, suitable for most reporting tasks. Advanced is the default cloud-based speech service that blends several advanced speech recognition features to reduce transcription errors in reports.
The Advanced speech service may provide better results for:
- Diverse accents
- Fast dictation
- Noisy environments
- Dates and numbers

- Voice commands
The Advanced service focuses on improved dictation accuracy, better formatting, and improved performance (less latency). It also supports the speech recognition dictionary—a way to improve recognition for specific, user-added terms. Learn more.
Hardware devices continue to work the same way across Standard and Advanced speech services.
How do I provide feedback to improve speech service performance?
By using the in-app feedback tool, or by contacting support@radai.com.
What happens to speech services if my network connection is unstable or goes down?
When Rad AI Reporting can’t reach cloud-based speech services—because of an internet problem or a speech-service outage—you'll see a notification advising you to switch to the Offline speech service. Note that other features (signing reports, sending ORU messages, AI Omni features, and other cloud-powered tools) still require a working internet connection and may be unavailable while you are fully offline.
When connectivity is restored, Rad AI Reporting notifies you so you can switch back to the Standard or Advanced service.

Will my existing microphone, foot pedal, and hotkey setup work the same way for both speech services?
Yes, all hardware and controls continue to work as configured for both the Standard and Advanced speech services.
Does the Advanced speech service change how voice commands work, or only how my dictated text is transcribed?
The Advanced speech service focuses on boosting dictation accuracy and formatting, not changing the voice command model. Your available commands and how you issue them remain the same.
If I choose the Advanced speech service, can I switch back to the standard speech service if I encounter issues?
