Overview
With a foot pedal, you can use your feet to emulate keyboard and mouse functions in Rad AI Reporting.
Rad AI Reporting will work with any foot pedal that can assign keyboard shortcuts (hotkeys), and will map those shortcuts to any supported actions (e.g., start/stop dictation, go to next/previous field, etc.).
Setting up a foot pedal
To set up your foot pedal:
- Install the foot pedal’s driver and/or configuration software.
- If your foot pedal can’t act as a keyboard on its own, you can try using Pedable—a free, open-source software that lets you configure your foot pedal to perform specific actions within Rad AI Reporting. Learn more about Pedable and download it for Windows.
- If your organization prohibits installing additional software, you can use a hardware‑programmable USB HID (Human Interface Device) foot pedal that your operating system recognizes as a keyboard.
- Using the configuration software, assign each button on the foot pedal to a unique keyboard shortcut (e.g., left pedal = Ctrl + Alt + F7).
- In Rad AI Reporting, map these keyboard shortcuts to specific actions. The following example shows a common layout for a foot pedal with an action assigned to each button:
- Left button: Go to previous field
- Center button: Start/stop dictation
- Right button: Go to next field
- Test each foot pedal button to ensure Rad AI Reporting performs the expected action.

What if my organization does not allow me to install software for my foot pedal?
You can use a hardware‑programmable USB HID (Human Interface Device) foot pedal that can assign keyboard shortcuts; this type of pedal has onboard memory and will be recognized by your operating system as a standard keyboard.
