- To associate a scheduled study with a report, make sure the "View Scheduled Studies" and Manage Studies Report Outbound" permissions are enabled for your assigned role.
- To associate a study with a signed report, make sure the "Admin Access" permission is enabled for your role.
Overview
Users can associate a study that has been received by Rad AI Reporting from an external radiology information system (RIS) with the corresponding report that interprets its findings. This makes it easy for anyone reviewing the report to quickly access the related images or data.
If a radiologist does not associate a study with the report before signing it, an administrator can perform this action and then resend the report.
Associating a study with a report
Users can associate studies with their corresponding report. To do this, make sure the study is in “Open” or “Scheduled” status.
-
Select Reports > Worklist from the main navigation menu on the left-hand side.
- Search for the report in the worklist and double-click it, or type the report’s accession number in the search bar at the top of the page.
-
In the report that opens, go to the Associate Studies view where you’ll see a list of Other Studies, which are any studies related to this report that Rad AI Reporting has received from an external RIS.
The table below explains the different statuses you may see for a study, and what actions to take if the study is not available to be associated with the report:
Status Definition Notes Open A study that is available to be associated with its corresponding report.
Scheduled A study that has been received by Rad AI Reporting with scheduling details, but is not yet marked as completed.
Scheduled studies can be associated with the corresponding report.
The ability to view and associate scheduled studies in the Associate Studies view depends on how Rad AI Reporting was implemented by your organization.
By default, administrators have permission to view scheduled studies—but radiologists do not. To request access, please contact your administrator.
Learn about managing roles and permissions.
Active A study that can’t be associated due to a corresponding report being currently viewed or edited by another user, or in draft status. If you have a draft of the report, please delete it on the Reports > Drafts page and then return to the report to associate the study.
If the report is locked because another user is currently viewing/editing the report or has the report in draft status:
- Wait until the user closes the report.
- Search for the report and open it.
- Click the Acquire button.
- Once acquired, click the arrow next to Sign and select Delete Report from the drop-down menu.
- Return to the report to associate the study.
Learn more about acquiring a report.
- Check the box next to any study with an “Open” or “Scheduled” status to associate it with the report. The study will:
- Change status, from “Open” to “Associated”.
- Move from the Other Studies section to the top of the Associate Studies view.
-
Appear in the Study view.
⚠️ You may see one or both of the following warnings:
- Over 24 hours have elapsed between study (e.g., RA00076) and study (e.g., RA00077).
- Study (e.g., RA00076) and study (e.g., RA00077) have different modality types.
In these cases, the study will still be associated with the report.
💡 If you deselect an associated study, it will return to the Other Studies section and be removed from the Study view.
Associating a study with a signed report (admins)
If a radiologist did not associate a study to its corresponding report before signing it, an administrator can perform this action and then resend the report. If there’s an issue with a study (e.g., the wrong study was ordered or it was canceled), you can move a report from one study to another.
-
Select Admin > Report Manager from the main navigation menu on the left-hand side.
-
Search for the report in the list and double-click it, or type the report’s accession number in the search bar at the top of the page.

-
Click the Resend button to resend the report, which is now updated with the associated study.
- Click the Confirm? button to confirm resending the report.
Troubleshooting
Why can’t I select an “active” study to associate with a report?
Active studies can’t be associated because the report is currently being viewed or edited by another user, or in draft status.
(Admin) Why do I keep getting a warning message that “one or more associate studies have open reports”?
If you receive a warning that one or more associate studies have open reports, it means that the studies can’t be associated due to the corresponding reports being currently viewed, edited, or in draft status. To resolve, see the Troubleshooting section.
(Admins) Why do I see some studies grayed out when trying to associate a study?
If a study is grayed out and shows “Cannot be associated”, it could be due to one of the following:
- The study has a signed report.
- The study has an active draft report—the draft must be deleted before it can be associated. Learn how to delete a draft report.
- The site has reached its maximum number of associated studies.
